Congressman Bill Enyart Announces COPS Grant for Cahokia

Press Release

Date: Sept. 27, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart (D-IL) announced today that the Village of Cahokia has been awarded a $125,000 COPS Hiring Program (CHP) grant through the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The COPS Hiring Program provides funding to address the full-time sworn officer needs of state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies nationwide. CHP grants go directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or retain career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. This grant will enable Cahokia to hire or retain one officer.

"The COPS program has provided valuable assistance for many municipalities, struggling with budget constraints and increased needs for police services," commented Enyart. "We must provide the resources to keep our communities safe and secure which is why I was pleased to announce this award today."
